Method 1 - The Shettles Method
This particular technique aims to ensure that the sperm which contains Y chromosomes is able to reach the egg before the sperm carrying the X chromosomes is able to. Plus he also recommends that intercourse should not take less than 12 hours past the woman's ovulation period.
Along with him giving a specific time period in which to have intercourse he feels that by the man penetrating deeper into the woman will enable their sperm to be deposited closer to the cervix. This means that the more aggressive sperm that contains the Y chromosomes has in fact a head start in the fertilization process.
Method 2 - The Whelan Method
Dr Whelan devised this technique as a rebuttal to the technique purported by Dr Shettles. In hers, Dr Whelan feels that if a couple would like to increase their chances of having a boy rather than a girl intercourse should take place as early as possible during a woman's monthly cycle. Certainly research shows that around 68% of the time all couples using this technique did in fact conceive a baby boy.
